About this role

WeiXin Group (WXG) manages the Weixin ecosystem and its open platforms including Official Accounts, Mini Programs, Weixin Pay and WeCom. The Data Scientist Intern supports safety strategies that protect account integrity across this large-scale platform.

Daily work involves analysing behavioural trends to detect anomalies and malicious activity through data analysis and machine learning. The intern helps devise strategies that track fraudulent accounts and shield users from spam.

Models are deployed and maintained to identify malicious accounts at scale within the WeChat ecosystem. The role requires close coordination with stakeholders across regions to align safety rules with user experience goals.

Interns gain exposure to production safety systems used by hundreds of millions of users. The position offers opportunities to translate technical findings for both business and engineering audiences in an international setting.

Requirements

Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
Experience building machine learning or deep learning solutions
Strong knowledge of Python; C/C++/Go is preferred
Ability to communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders clearly
Self-driven and collaborative with strong presentation skills to translate between business and technical audiences
Fluency in both English and Mandarin to work with international and HQ stakeholders

Responsibilities

Participate in designing safe processes and managing safety rules to ensure account safety while improving the safety experience
Analyse behavioural trends to identify malicious activities and detect anomalies in the WeChat ecosystem via data analysis and machine learning
Devise appropriate strategies to track fraudulent accounts and protect users from spam or fraudulent activity
Deploy and maintain machine learned models to help detect malicious accounts
