About this role

This Data Scientist position reports to a Manager of Data Science & Analytics. You will support analytic solutions through consulting for TransUnion clients in credit, fraud, insurance, and marketing applications. It requires understanding US financial services risk management practices.

The hybrid role involves virtual and in-person work at a Chicago office for at least two days weekly. You will partner with cross-functional teams to drive initiatives and deliver predictive models plus business intelligence solutions of moderate scope.

Lead client engagements with descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analysis across business use cases. Own projects from design and development through peer review, presentation, implementation, and audit using techniques like R, Python, SQL, Hive, and Spark.

Identify opportunities to adopt TransUnion products, develop proposals and presentations for sales partners. Deliver succinct insights to diverse audiences while fostering a high-performance culture of excellence.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in statistics, applied mathematics, financial mathematics, computer science, engineering, operations research, or other highly quantitative field; or Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field with at least three years of relevant professional experience
  • Consistent track record of academic excellence
  • 1+ years of experience and demonstrated success in client-facing roles
  • 1+ years of professional experience performing analytic work, preferably in industries served by TransUnion
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and creative problem solving skills
  • Advanced programming skills and aptitude; proficiency with statistical programs such as R or Python
  • Experience with other programming languages including SQL, C/C++, Java, Ab Initio
  • General understanding of US financial services risk management practices

Responsibilities

  • Partner with internal and external cross-functional teams to drive new business initiatives and deliver long-term value-added solutions
  • Lead analytic client engagements involving descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analysis for various business use cases
  • Take ownership of projects from design, development, peer review, client presentation, implementation, and audit
  • Identify strategies and opportunities for customers to test and adopt TransUnion analytic products and services
  • Develop project proposals, sales presentations, and promotional collateral to enable integrated customer solutions
  • Design, write, and test programs for data extraction, segmentation, and statistical analysis on large datasets using R, Python, SQL, Hive, and Spark
  • Deliver analytic insights and recommendations in succinct and compelling presentations for internal and external customers
