Amazon seeks a Senior Product Manager to own the Japanese language experience for Alexa in the NLP domain. This hybrid role blends product strategy ownership with hands-on language engineering to build and localize GenAI technology for the Japan market.

Your day starts by designing evaluation taxonomies for entertainment use cases with Applied Scientists. You map real utterance patterns against model failure modes and benchmark candidate models using Japanese-specific signals such as pitch accent accuracy.

You work across Applied Science, Engineering, QA, UX, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced environment. The role requires structuring ambiguous problems into actionable frameworks that deliver measurable outcomes for millions of Japanese customers.

This high-visibility position lets you shape Japanese AI voice technology at the intersection of product strategy and cutting-edge language technology while influencing global technical roadmaps.

Requirements

Comfortable writing a product vision narrative for senior leadership
Skilled at designing test sets to measure Japanese pitch accent accuracy and diagnosing error patterns
Proficient in conducting deep dive analysis on language performance and bringing compelling data to motivate change
Experienced automating evaluation pipelines using Python and NLP tooling
Able to provide Japanese language engineering support including data collection design and annotation guideline authoring
Strong understanding of Japanese linguistic complexities such as homograph disambiguation, pitch accent, and keigo use

Responsibilities

Define and own the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and success metrics for Japanese language capabilities in Alexa
Drive product discussions and executive communication in both Japanese and English to bridge market needs and technical capabilities
Design evaluation test sets, define quality metrics, and establish regression testing methodologies for Japanese language performance
Produce, process, and analyze language data to diagnose quality issues and inform product and modeling decisions
Automate evaluation and data workflows using Python and internal NLP tooling
Partner with Applied Scientists on training data requirements and the customer impact of architectural decisions for Japanese
Identify pitfalls unique to Japanese language and speech technology and develop mitigation strategies
Own end-to-end launch execution and post-launch quality monitoring, defining showstoppers and ensuring issues are resolved
