We are seeking a Data Analyst Intern for a 12-week internship with hybrid or fully remote work. Reporting to the Director, Development & Infrastructure, you will assist the Technology & Analytics team with building reports, organizing data, and exploring data models. Gain practical experience with industry-standard platforms while supporting research that informs advocacy for Canadian small businesses.

Work closely with colleagues both locally and across the country, building upon synergies and learning from one another. Be independent through flexibility and accountability, so you can live and work at your best. Participate in team meetings, ask questions, and take initiative on assigned tasks with growing independence.

Contribute to a summer project, such as a data dashboard, analysis summary, or proof-of-concept, and present findings to the team. Translate data findings into clear, plain-language narratives for non-technical audiences. You make a difference when you work at CFIB.

Requirements

  • Education in a post-secondary program in computer science, data science, statistics, information systems, or a related field
  • Basic familiarity with at least one data tool such as SQL, Python, or Excel
  • Genuine curiosity about data, with a desire to explore datasets and understand insights
  • Strong attention to detail and habit of double checking work for accuracy
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills to explain findings in plain language to non-technical audiences
  • Comfort working independently in a remote environment while staying engaged through check-ins
  • Exposure through coursework or self-study to dimensional modeling concepts such as fact and dimension tables, star schemas, or snowflake schemas
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or another business intelligence tool, even if limited to academic or personal projects

Responsibilities

  • Build and update reports and dashboards in Power BI, connecting data sources, applying basic filters, and presenting findings clearly
  • Write and run SQL queries to extract, clean, and summarize data from organizational databases under guidance
  • Assist with data cleaning and preparation tasks using Python or Excel, documenting steps for reproducibility and audit
  • Contribute to a summer project including a data dashboard, analysis summary, or short proof-of-concept and present findings
  • Translate data findings into clear, plain-language narratives for non-technical audiences, including written summaries and short presentations
  • Participate in team meetings, ask questions, and take initiative on assigned tasks with growing independence
