About this role
Forge is seeking a Director of Platform & Reliability Engineering to lead a critical engineering organization responsible for the systems, services, and operational practices that enable secure, scalable, and highly reliable products. This leader will oversee Platform Engineering, Cloud Operations, and Site Reliability Engineering, setting the vision for how internal platforms evolve.
In this role, you will operate strategically while remaining close to architecture, delivery, and operations to guide strong technical decision-making. You will drive improvements in availability, performance, scalability, security, and operational maturity across production systems, establishing standards for incident management and disaster recovery.
You will build high-performing teams, drive engineering excellence, and improve reliability and developer productivity. Partnering closely with product and engineering leaders, you will create paved-road solutions that improve delivery speed and developer experience.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned technical and people leader to shape the future of Forge's platform capabilities as the business scales. The role requires 2-3 days a week in office in San Francisco, CA.
Requirements
- Proven experience leading Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering organizations.
- Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure, developer enablement, and operational maturity.
- Track record of driving improvements in availability, performance, scalability, security, and operational maturity.
- Ability to set vision and execute strategy for internal platforms and reliability engineering.
- Experience establishing standards for incident management, disaster recovery, and post-incident learning.
- Strong partnership skills with product and engineering leaders to create paved-road solutions.
- Expertise in cloud capacity, cost, and architecture planning aligned to business priorities.
- Proficiency in defining service level objectives (SLOs) and operational metrics for executive reporting.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, and Site Reliability Engineering teams, including organizational design, hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Define and execute the strategy for internal platforms, cloud infrastructure, reliability engineering, observability, and developer enablement.
- Drive improvements in availability, performance, scalability, security, and operational maturity across production systems.
- Establish and evolve standards for incident management, service ownership, operational readiness, disaster recovery, and post-incident learning.
- Partner with product and software engineering leaders to create paved-road solutions that improve delivery speed, reliability, and developer experience.
- Lead cloud capacity, cost, and architecture planning to ensure infrastructure investments align with business priorities and engineering demand.
- Create and monitor meaningful service level objectives (SLOs), operational metrics, and executive-level reporting for reliability and platform health.
- Guide technical architecture decisions for platform and infrastructure to support growth.
