About this role
We are looking for a Junior Product Designer to join our e-commerce and subscriptions product area, focusing on improving acquisition and retention. You will help drive anonymous users to register, convert non-subscribers to paid subscribers, and optimise checkout flows.
You will work in cross-functional teams of Engineers and Product Managers, producing end-to-end user experiences and creating design deliverables ready for engineering. Your work will uphold The Economist brand digitally, maintaining a high bar of visual quality while considering technical constraints.
You will be supported by a friendly and inclusive design team with autonomy to define and improve processes. The team cares deeply about developing each other's capabilities and values ideas, encourages ownership, and holds itself to high standards.
You will develop into a rounded product designer with coaching and guidance from more senior members of the design team. You will gain experience across the design process from sketching and prototyping to user research, wireframes, and validation.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience across different parts of the design process, such as sketching, prototyping, wireframes, and user flows.
- Ability to produce end-to-end user experiences and create design deliverables ready for engineering.
- Understanding of visual design and ability to uphold a brand's digital presence while considering technical constraints.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams with Engineers and Product Managers.
- Familiarity with user research methods and testing/validation processes.
- Curiosity, thoughtfulness, and adaptability to thrive in a culture that values ideas and ownership.
Responsibilities
- Work with key partners across the business (from product, editorial, marketing and data) to achieve shared goals.
- Support in carrying out user research alongside your team.
- Produce end-to-end user experiences and create design deliverables ready for engineering.

- Demonstrate knowledge and experience across different parts of the design process, including sketching, creating prototypes, and working through different levels of fidelity.
- Develop user flows, wireframes, and prototypes from user research through to testing and validation.
- Help drive anonymous users to register, convert non-subscribers to paid subscribers, and optimise checkout flows.
