This Lead Software Engineer role is critical to supporting and scaling the US Government Cloud Operations (USGov CloudOps) platform within Microsoft Azure Government. You will design, build, and maintain secure, scalable cloud automation and internal tooling, ensuring the availability, security, resiliency, and compliance of mission-critical SaaS services for U.S. public-sector customers.
You will support mission-critical production systems, including participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver time-sensitive public-sector outcomes. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in cloud automation, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and secure software development, with hands-on experience operating in regulated, compliance-driven environments such as FedRAMP and IL3–IL5.
This position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact government contracts and contribute to the security and transparency of federal operations. You will troubleshoot complex application and Azure PaaS issues, implement cloud security controls, and support audits and compliance activities, including evidence collection and documentation.
Requirements
- Strong experience developing secure, maintainable, and scalable software
- Proficiency in C#, ASP.NET, Java, JavaScript, Python, Web APIs, and Microsoft SQL
- Hands-on automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, JSON/YAML
- Experience operating cloud-first, mission-critical systems (Azure preferred)
- Working knowledge of Azure Functions, AKS, Docker, and PaaS services
- Strong Windows and Linux systems administration skills
- Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments and take ownership of issues through resolution
- Familiarity with federal compliance frameworks: FedRAMP, NIST, CMMC, IL3–IL5, HIPAA, PCI, ISO 27001
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable cloud automation and internal tooling
- Support mission-critical production systems, including participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation
- Develop and manage DevOps pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, ARM, and Azure DevOps
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application and Azure PaaS issues (C#/ASP.NET)
- Implement and continuously improve cloud security controls aligned with federal compliance requirements
- Execute Identity & Access Management (IAM), deployments, upgrades, and change management activities
- Support audits and compliance activities, including evidence collection and documentation
- Maintain clear, accurate technical documentation for systems and processes
