About this role

We're looking for a mid-to-senior backend developer to join a fast-moving sports media startup building a mobile app with video content and live scores. This is a full-ownership role where you'll own backend features end-to-end, from architecture decisions to deployment, including infrastructure. You must be available during US business hours (PT/ET overlap).

Design and build RESTful APIs with a focus on performance and scalability. Deploy and manage AWS cloud infrastructure including ECS Fargate, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, and S3. Write and maintain CI/CD pipelines, work with Docker, and diagnose and resolve production issues independently.

Collaborate asynchronously with a small, distributed team. You'll operate on both sides of the stack without a dedicated DevOps engineer. Strong Git workflow and experience shipping production consumer apps are expected. Clear written communication in English is required.

As a key member of a fast-moving startup, you'll have significant impact on product direction and architecture. You'll shape the backend infrastructure from the ground up and work with real-time systems including WebSockets and pub/sub.

Requirements

  • 3–6+ years of experience with Node.js (Express, Fastify, or similar)
  • TypeScript — required
  • PostgreSQL — required
  • Strong RESTful API design and system design fundamentals
  • Experience with auth patterns: JWT, OAuth
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS
  • Proficiency with Docker and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience shipping production consumer apps

Responsibilities

  • Own backend features end-to-end, from architecture decisions to deployment
  • Design and build RESTful APIs with a focus on performance and scalability
  • Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS (ECS Fargate, Aurora, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, S3)
  • Write and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or similar)
  • Work with containerized environments using Docker
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues independently
  • Collaborate asynchronously with a small, distributed team
  • Contribute clean, well-documented, maintainable code

Benefits

  • Remote-first work environment with a distributed team
  • Flexible working hours as long as overlapping US business hours
  • Small, agile team with direct impact on product and infrastructure
