About this role

We’re looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to design, build and evolve the internal platforms and shared engineering tools that support software delivery across AJ Bell Technology Services. This role focuses on improving Developer Experience and enabling product teams to deliver high-quality software quickly, safely and at scale.

You’ll maintain and evolve core engineering platforms including Backstage and internal developer portal capabilities, engineering data platforms with ELT workflows, DBT and SQL-based data pipelines, observability and monitoring Grafana platforms, and internal automation and workflow platforms.

As a senior member, you’ll contribute to platform engineering initiatives like streamlining software delivery workflows, supporting integration across tooling, improving developer experience through self-service tooling and golden paths, and using engineering insights to drive continuous improvement.

You’ll provide technical guidance to engineering teams, drive adoption of modern platform tools and practices, and mentor Platform Engineers while contributing to technical leadership within the team. AJ Bell offers a supportive and collaborative culture recognised as a Great Place to Work.

Requirements

Strong experience designing and operating internal platforms and shared engineering tooling
Experience improving developer workflows, developer experience and software delivery practices
Hands-on experience with TypeScript or Go
Experience building and supporting Internal Developer Platforms
Experience working with data platforms, ELT workflows, DBT and SQL-based data pipelines
Strong understanding of cloud platforms, containerisation and infrastructure as code
Experience with monitoring and observability
Ability to provide technical leadership, mentor others and influence adoption of engineering best practices

Responsibilities
