About this role
Itron is seeking a Principal UX Designer to shape intuitive, human-centered experiences for global utility solutions. This role focuses on Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems, distribution grids, and distributed energy resources, influencing the future of smart energy management.
The designer will lead user-centered design practices within a scalable UX framework, conducting and synthesizing user research to deepen understanding of diverse utility personas. They will design end-to-end experiences from low-fidelity concepts to high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, ensuring consistency through reusable component libraries.
Collaborating closely with product management, engineering, and cross-functional teams, this role aligns UX solutions with business priorities and agile delivery practices. The designer champions inclusive, accessible, and equitable design by embedding accessibility standards across all deliverables.
This strategic position offers the opportunity to drive innovation in complex enterprise platforms while mentoring other designers and researchers. The designer will contribute to evolving design systems using atomic design principles and explore innovative applications of AI-enabled design tools.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in UX design and research, ideally within enterprise SaaS or technology platforms, demonstrating innovative and customer-centric impact
- Proven ability to lead UX initiatives across large-scale, cross-functional programs with accountability for design outcomes
- Expertise in user research methodologies and the ability to translate insights into actionable, high-quality design solutions
- Advanced proficiency in Figma, including design systems, component libraries, and familiarity with AI-enabled design workflows and integrations
- Strong communication, storytelling, and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization
- Experience working in agile environments, adapting quickly to evolving priorities, constraints, and team velocity
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive design, collaboration, and continuous improvement within a centralized or distributed design team
