Ibotta seeks a Principal Data Scientist - Causal Inference to serve as a strategic technical leader and highest level individual contributor in the data science organization. Drive business-critical initiatives while establishing technical standards that elevate capabilities. Core focus on enhancing productized measurement solutions demonstrating incremental sales for brand partners at scale.

Enhance and partner to evolve measurement solutions through collaboration across teams on edge cases, innovation design, and experiment validation. Ensure products maintain rigor required of industry-leading organizations. Troubleshoot anomalies, diagnose data quality issues, and validate statistical assumptions across systems.

Lead code reviews, architecture discussions, and enterprise-wide initiatives spanning 6+ months with measurable impact. Build trusted partnerships with C-suite executives, product managers, and data science leaders. Foster code quality, scalability, and collaborative problem-solving culture.

Mentor junior data scientists via guidance, reviews, and coaching. Present complex concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences with impactful visualizations. Create training programs and documentation to elevate organizational data science maturity.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics with demonstrated transformational impact
  • Expert-level SQL and Python with ability to write clean, maintainable, well-tested production-grade code
  • Experience in performance marketing, retail media, e-commerce, or CPG analytics environments strongly preferred
  • Deep expertise in causal inference, measurement research, and experimental design
  • Proven ability to lead code reviews, troubleshoot complex data issues, and validate statistical assumptions
  • Experience evaluating tools and frameworks for scalable data science solutions
  • Strong skills in presenting technical concepts to executives and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead evolution of measurement methodology through cutting-edge research and experimental design
  • Troubleshoot measurement anomalies by exploring outliers, diagnosing data quality issues, and validating statistical assumptions across systems
  • Lead code reviews and architecture discussions on design patterns, scalability, and technical trade-offs
  • Evaluate and adopt new tools, frameworks, and model forms to enhance team effectiveness while maintaining code quality
  • Lead enterprise-wide data science initiatives spanning 6+ months with measurable business impact
  • Build trusted partnerships with C-suite executives, product managers, and data science leaders to translate business problems into solutions
  • Present complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences with clear visualizations
  • Mentor junior data scientists and create technical training programs and documentation
